TACTICAL SHOTGUN FUN SHOOT

Shoot Results:    July 2007    August 2007    August 2008

The Lemon Grove Rod & Gun Club Board has approved a TACTICAL SHOTGUN FUN SHOOT on a periodic basis. Here is how it will operate:

  • Date and Time: This Match will be held on the fifth Sunday of the month when they occur (about four times each year). Match setup begins at 8:00 A.M., the shooters safety meeting at approximately 8:50 A.M. and shooting commences at 9:00 A.M. You must be present for the safety meeting in order to participate in the match. This meeting will include a safety briefing along with stage descriptions. We expect to be done around noon. The Match is setup and torn down by the match participants so please feel free to help out.

  • Targets: Targets will be steel reactive targets, clays or steel plates.

  • Stages: Set up six or seven stages using the Pit and the two trap ranges along with the rifle range. Stage designers will define the course description and number of shots required at each stage. Target engagement will be from shooting boxes, behind fault lines, behind barriers or through shooting ports.

  • Equipment: Any shotgun will work. There will be three divisions defined as "Open," "Tactical" or "Sporting." Open shotguns will have a capacity up to 10 shots, may use any optical sighting system and speed loaders. Tactical shotguns may load up to four rounds in the magazine with one in the chamber and store extra shot shells on the gun or load from a pocket, pouch or belt holder. Sporting shotguns will be limited to two rounds loaded at a time and must be reloaded from a pocket, bag, fanny pack or any location not on the gun. The maximum shot size to be permitted is #7 ½ . You will need 60-80 shot shells, but bring more to make sure.

  • Scoring: The score will be the total time taken to engage all targets plus any penalty points for misses, failure to engage, foot faults and the normal rules used in the handgun games. The results will be sent out by e-mail after the match to those who provide their e-mail addresses on the scoring sheets. If you do not want your score shared, then do not turn in your scoring sheet and you will remain anonymous (this is first and foremost a FUN shoot).

  • Safety Rules: All shotguns will remain unloaded with the action open at all times unless the participant is under the control of a range safety officer and is engaging targets. Side-by-side or over and under shotguns may be closed while placed in the rack. Muzzles must be pointed downrange at all times while targets are being engaged. Eye and ear protection is required for both participants and spectators. Shot shells are limited to #7 ½ shot or smaller to prevent shot from leaving the Range.

  • Shooter fees: Shooter fees will be free for Lemon Grove Gun Club members and $15 for non-members. Participants are also required to participate in match chores such as match setup, tear down, target painting, scoring and acting as Range Safety Officer.

Please feel free to share your ideas on how to make this event better as we evolve the format.
